LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier shows notable confidence in running backs room ahead of 2024 season

While quarterback play has largely dominated Baton Rouge, LA over the past five seasons, Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier certainly hasn’t forgotten about the rest of the backfield unit. Earlier this week, the star signal-caller had some serious praise for the LSU in the background before the next 2024 season.

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier knows LSU’s running back room is capable of putting together a strong 2024 season

If the 2023 campaign was any indication, the Tigers’ offense will inevitably throw the ball around quite a bit this upcoming season. Naturally, the vast majority of the discussion in the national media has in turn focused on that specific aspect of the unit. Still, they’ll at least have to pass the ball here and there; so what exactly can we expect from the ball carriers?

Well, if you ask quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, LSU’s running back room looks primed and ready to put in some serious work during the 2024 season.

“We’ve got a lot of really good backs. This room is deep with Kaleb (Jackson), Josh (Williams) and Caden (Durham), and everybody in the room.” the purple and gold signal-caller said during a media interview Friday. “We’ve got guys that care about the team, they care about football, they care about what they’re doing, they want to do things the right way. And that’s the biggest thing. They’re all guys that I can trust, and I know they’re going to be where they’re supposed to be and do what they’re supposed to do. So that’s huge, especially in the running backs room.

So far this offseason, LSU’s offensive line along with Nussmeier and receiver Kyren Lacy have been the offensive headliners, but it’s important to remember that the Tigers return plenty of talent at running back.

With veterans Josh Williams and John Emery Jr. both expected to return in 2024, there’s no shortage of experience to go along with the electric young talent on display from sophomore Kaleb Jackson.
