Manchester United eye Matthijs de Ligt, Chelsea prepare new offer for Alexander Isak – Paper Round

United keen on Bayern defender De Ligt

Manchester United remain interested in Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The central defender played for Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and a reunification could now be on the cards.

The Independent reports: “Manchester United are interested in Matthijs de Ligt as their summer search for central defense reinforcements continues.

“The Bayern Munich defender played for Erik ten Hag at Ajax and was a mainstay of the team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

“United have admired De Ligt for years and he emerged as an option this summer, although they are yet to submit an offer.

“United need at least one, if not two, centre-backs in the summer transfer window. They have released Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans’ contract has expired, although they are in talks with the 36-year-old to extend his deal, while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have just one year left on their contracts.”

Newcastle facing transfer rush

As the profit and sustainability rules deadline approaches, Newcastle are desperate to find buyers for some of their players.

The Athletic reports that the club are making purchases around Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, which could generate significant profits.

The website explains: “Newcastle United are in talks with Nottingham Forest and are discussing several alternative deals with the clubs as they work to avoid a penalty under the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR ).

“Newcastle will leave themselves open to a points deduction unless they make sales before the June 30 PSR deadline.

“Newcastle are in talks with Nottingham Forest over potential deals for players including 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh or 21-year-old midfielder Elliot Anderson, with right winger Anthony Elanga potentially arriving at St James’ Park in return. The sales and purchases would be separate deals for PSR purposes, although Forest are under no financial pressure to sell Elanga, who is considered a valued member of their squad.

“Minteh was signed by Newcastle from Boldklub Odense last summer for €7 million and starred for Feyenoord on loan last season. He is yet to play for Newcastle, who are keen to sell him to maximize their transfer value. Anderson, a graduate of the training center, would represent “pure profit” according to PSR regulations. »

Palace could benefit from O’Brien transfer

West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton could secure the services of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien in a move that could help Crystal Palace.

A sell-on clause for the £15million-rated player means a significant sum of money could flow to Palace following his sale last summer.

The Independent says: “Crystal Palace will be owed a percentage of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien’s next move, amid serious Premier League interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

“The Eagles are set to benefit from a significant financial windfall with O’Brien’s return to the Premier League this summer after an impressive season in League One.

“Mail Sport understands the Selhurst Park side included a sell-on clause of up to 25 per cent when they sold him to Lyon last summer – although it is unclear whether the amount Palace would recoup is linked to the profit Lyon make from the defender’s potential exit.

“West Ham, who are also interested in Wolves’ Max Kilman, are also interested in O’Brien. Everton are also reportedly considering bringing in the 23-year-old. »

Chelsea ready to offer Jackson for Isak

The Sun reports that Chelsea are ready to send Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle as part of a deal for Alexander Isak.

With Newcastle wanting at least £100million for Isak, a reinforcement may well be needed.

The newspaper claims: “Chelsea have discussed the inclusion of Nicolas Jackson as part of any deal for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

“The Blues have made enquiries about the availability of the Swedish striker, valued at over £100m.

“Given the amount being asked, it is unlikely that a deal will be done without a player stepping up to the plate – and Jackson has been suggested.

“The Senegal international, 23, endured an inconsistent first season at Stamford Bridge but finished the campaign with 17 goals and six assists in all competitions – scoring four in his last five Premier League games.

“Jackson has been seen as an important figure for the future at Chelsea, but may have to be sacrificed if a deal for Isak becomes possible.

“Despite financial concerns over profit and sustainability rules, Newcastle are reluctant to sell such a major player.”
