Trump adviser Jason Miller: ‘Washington state could now be in play’

As the Associated Press (AP) noted in its coverage, “Thursday’s presidential debate was a replay featuring two candidates who are 159 years old together, but it went particularly poorly for one of them, President Joe Biden.”

It didn’t take long for Republicans to pounce on what many saw as a lacking performance in CNN’s presidential debate Thursday night from the current president facing former President Donald Trump. Several media outlets, including the AP, noted that there was “quick concern among Democrats” about Biden, 81, who was “hesitating and appearing to lose his train of thought.”

Coverage of the debate: Halting Biden attempts to confront Trump during debate but fuels Democratic panic

The event prompted Jason Miller, a senior Trump campaign adviser who is a Seattle native and 1993 graduate of Edmonds Woodway High School, to make a bold statement about Washington state Thursday night.

“Washington State could now be in play,” Miller said in an exclusive text message to KIRO Newsradio.

Miller then offered glowing praise of the former president’s performance, calling Trump a “true leader.”

“President Trump delivered the greatest performance in debate history,” Miller said in a text message to KIRO Newsradio. “Millions of Americans have now been reminded of what true leadership looks like and have renewed hope that we can rebuild our economy and secure our southern border.”

Miller focused his comments on KIRO Newsradio on Trump, but he also said a few words about Biden. According to the AP, Miller said the former president rose to the occasion during the debate and mostly limited himself to discussing miscellaneous issues.

On Joe Biden’s performance and any talk of Democrats turning to another candidate, Miller said such a move would be “structurally impossible.”

“Sorry, Democrats. You have your candidate,” Miller said.

Comment from Charlie Harger: It’s time to try something different about presidential debates

As Politico explained in its coverage last year, Miller — who worked on Trump’s 2016 and 2020 candidacies — joined his 2024 presidential campaign in 2023 as the operation began building its West Palm Beach, Florida-based team.

Miller left his post as CEO of GETTR, which Politico called “a right-wing social media site developed to rival X, formerly known as Twitter, but which has often been overshadowed by Trump’s own platform, Truth Social “.

Miller served as Trump’s spokesman after his administration ended in 2021. But he left that role to launch GETTR.
