Gemini AI arrives on Google Messages

A new update is rolling out, bringing Gemini AI to Google Messages after Gmail already got the AI treatment and Google announced the move over a week ago. The feature isn’t widely available yet, so you might have to wait a little longer for the update.

Essentially, Gemini AI is the exact same service as the standalone app on Android, but because it’s integrated into the Messages app, it’s easier to access and you can ask questions or give instructions on the go without having to to close the Messages app.

A new floating action button should appear above the “Start Chat” button in the bottom right corner, giving you quick and easy access to the AI service.

It’s important to note that the AI doesn’t read your private conversations and your conversation with said chatbot isn’t end-to-end encrypted, so you might want to be careful with the information you give Gemini. Your chat history with Gemini is stored for up to 18 months by default, but you can increase that to 36 months or reduce it to just 3. The Gemini AI also won’t track your location. It will only know your general location based on your IP address or home address so it can generate relevant information.
