Bertis Downs, the band’s manager, told Deadline: “The guys thought it was a great idea and they like the weird way their music and Buster Keaton’s music mix together. Sherlock, Jr.match – pretty much perfect. What a great and unlikely way to present great art.

“There’s something oddly appealing about syncing modern music to an old silent film: It brings a whole new perspective. I like to imagine Buster Keaton walking around the set with a 1927 version of They Might Be Giants playing in his head. It’s a perfect combination,” said Pete Smolin, They Might Be Giants’ manager.

Blue Starlite opened in Austin in 2009 and has been entertaining moviegoers ever since. The drive-in saw a surge in attendance after the pandemic and hopes to continue that momentum with its new series. The goal of Synchronized mufflers is to “create a unique and engaging cinematic experience that will attract both traditional moviegoers and music lovers to independent cinemas across the country.”
