Shifty Shellshock’s family breaks silence after death

The family of Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock have broken their silence following his death.

The “Butterfly” singer, real name Seth Binzer, died at his Los Angeles home on June 24 of an accidental drug overdose. He was 49.

In a statement obtained by The sunBinzer’s family said the rocker’s “greatest accomplishments” were his three sons: Halo, Gage and Phoenix.

“For Seth, the world was art – he loved every aspect of it, from music to fashion to graffiti to skateboarding to his hometown of Los Angeles,” the statement said. “He loved his three sons more than anything, and his dedication to his music and his fans never wavered.”

Also in the statement, Binzer’s family acknowledged his experiences with substance abuse, which the star has always been very open about. Early in his career, he appeared on VH1 shows Celebrity rehabilitation And House of Sobriety.

“Seth battled addiction throughout his life, he did so on a very public platform, which was particularly difficult,” the statement said. “God knows he tried so hard to overcome his demons but unfortunately he lost his battle.”

“Our hearts are broken by his loss. Seth’s larger-than-life presence touched so many people,” the statement continued. “Seth was a troubled soul but he was beautiful and he had a heart of gold.”

Crazy Town director Howie Hubberman told PEOPLE that Binzer’s cause of death was “a combination of prescription drugs and drugs purchased on the street.”

“Seth Binzer, after battling his addiction and the early success of Crazy Town with ‘Butterfly,’ has never been able to fight his addictions more successfully,” Hubberman said. “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”

“Shifty was a friend and he really wanted to get fixed. Unfortunately, no one had the exact tools to do it, including me,” he added.
