Election candidate ‘appalled’ by cancellation of LGBTQ+ election campaigns due to lack of candidates

An independent election candidate running to become the next MP for Burnham-On-Sea has this week expressed his anger at the cancellation of a local election event.

Pelé Barnes is standing for election in the new seat of Bridgwater and Burnham on July 4 against Claire Sully (Liberal Democrats), Ashley Fox (Conservatives), William Fagg (Reform), Leigh Redman (Labour), Charles Graham (Green Party) and Gregory. Tanner (Workers’ Party).

The independent candidate says he is “dismayed” that a planned LGBTQ+ election campaign in Highbridge was cancelled due to a lack of candidate turnout.

“Bridgwater Somerset MP candidates, so the majority of you do not see fit to attend the Burnham-On-Sea Pride elections – appalling,” Mr Barnes posted online. “It’s a small reason why I’m running as an independent candidate.

“Today’s political parties are plagued by problems of morality, greed and corruption. »

Pelé took part in a demonstration at the Robert Blake School, where he challenged the Conservative Party’s proposal to reinstate compulsory military service, and answered students’ questions about reducing the voting age. Pelé also attended an event organized by the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce.
