New Delhi (India), September 3 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Delhi Police on former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s plea challenging the High Court’s June 14 order of Delhi who canceled his bail granted to him by the trial court in a money laundering case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana asked the Delhi Police how much time it needed to complete the investigation in the case in which the elder Singh is accused of allegedly misappropriating around Rs 2,400 crore from the Religare Finvest Ltd (RFL) fund.

The Court said: “How long does it take to complete the investigation in a criminal case? The accused cannot be kept in prison without trial. »

Senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Singh, told the court that the accused had been in jail since October 2019 and the charges were yet to be framed.

During the hearing, the court observed that the case against Singh in a money laundering case is “very serious”.

High Court Justice Suresh Kait had said Singh’s detention was necessary to unearth the “conspiracy hatched by him and trace the money siphoned off”.

The High Court order came on RFL’s plea challenging the March 3 order of the trial court granting bail to Singh in the case registered against him by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for cheating, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.

In March 2019, the Delhi Police EOW registered an FIR after receiving a complaint from RFL’s Manpreet Suri against Singh, former CMD of Religare Enterprises Limited (REL) Sunil Godhwani and former RFL CEO Kavi Arora and others, alleging that loans were taken by them while they were running the company, but the money was invested in other companies.

RFL’s authorized representative, Suri, alleged that these accused had put RFL in a bad financial situation by granting loans to entities having no financial standing and deliberately defaulting on repayments, resulting in a loss of Rs 2,397 crore for RFL, according to EOW. (ANI)
