Woman and daughter rescued from locked room

HYDERABAD:

Police rescued a woman and her teenage daughter who were buried alive by her in-laws in a room of a house, the only door of which was sealed with a cinder block wall and plaster, in Latifabad.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving information via helpline 15 and burst into the house, demolishing the wall of the room where Tasleem Jahan, a widow, and her 14-year-old daughter, Dua, were trapped.

SHO Hashim Brohi said Tasleem and Dua were recovered safely from the spot and taken to the police station.

“Tasleem Jahan has named her brother-in-law Irfan Hussain, her late husband’s brother Suhail, Suhail’s wife Saima and Suhail’s brother-in-law Saleem in the FIR under sections 342, 448, 511 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC),” the SHO said.

He added that efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene. Tasleem Jahan claimed that his relatives planned the attempted murder to take possession of his share of the property.
