House Speaker Announces Appointments to Select Committee on Jackson

Lawmakers will soon explore new ways to improve the capital and its surrounding areas through a new special committee.

On Monday, House Republican Speaker Jason White announced the appointments to the Select Committee on Capital and Metro Revitalization. The co-chairs will be Clay Mansell, a Clinton Republican, and Shanda Yates, a Jackson Republican.

“The Select Committee on Capital and Metropolitan Revitalization is comprised of House members who are passionate and dedicated to improving Mississippi’s capital city for the benefit of the Jackson metropolitan area and our entire state,” White said. “I look forward to the work of this committee as it seeks strategic and innovative ways to improve and collaborate with citizens and leaders in the metropolitan area, recognizing the unique importance of a vibrant capital city to all Mississippians.”

Mansell and Yates join this select committee:

  • Chris Bell, a Democrat from Jackson
  • Lawrence Blackmon, Democrat of Canton
  • Angela Cockerham, I-Magnolia
  • Ronnie Crudup, Democrat of Jackson
  • Jill Ford, Republican of Madison
  • Stephanie Foster, a Democrat from Jackson
  • Justis Gibbs, Democrat of Jackson
  • Jonathan McMillan, Republican of Madison
  • Fabian Nelson, a Democrat from Byram
  • Gene Newman, a Pearl Republican
  • Brent Powell, Republican of Brandon
  • Fred Shanks, Republican of Brandon
  • Lance Varner, Republican of Florence
  • Price Wallace, Republican of Mendenhall
  • Grace Butler-Washington, Democrat-Jackson
  • Lee Yancey, Republican of Brandon
  • Hank Zuber, R-Ocean Springs
