(VINNews) — According to NBC News, President Joe Biden plans to discuss his political future with his family on Sunday at Camp David. The meeting comes after Biden’s horrendous debate performance, which followed years of speculation about his cognitive abilities.

Although Republicans have long expressed concerns about Biden’s mistakes, confusion, aimless wanderings, and stumbles, the White House has insisted that those concerns are misguided. Last week, the KJP press secretary called the many videos of Biden’s decline “cheapfakes.”

However, Thursday’s abysmal debate performance and the stark contrast between Biden and President Trump, who is only a few years younger, sent the entire Democratic Party and media into a complete panic.

Several people have urged Biden to step down, including the New York Times editorial board.

Biden’s trip to Camp David was scheduled before Thursday’s debate.

Top party leaders have publicly lent their support to Biden so far, including in tweets posted by former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Top Democrats in Congress, including Reps. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Jim Clyburn of South Carolina and Nancy Pelosi of California, have privately expressed concerns about its viability, two sources said, but they publicly support the president.

“Speaker Pelosi has full confidence in President Biden and looks forward to attending his inauguration on January 20, 2025,” said Ian Krager, a spokesman for the former House speaker. “Any suggestion that she has committed to a different course of action is simply false.”

According to NBC News, the Bidens are privately unhappy with the current situation.

The outlet reported:

“Biden was described by a person familiar with his mood as humiliated, lacking in confidence and painfully aware that the physical images of him at the debate – his eyes staring into the distance, his mouth open – will survive beyond his presidency, as well than a performance that was at times meandering, incoherent and difficult to hear.

“It’s a disaster,” the person said.

Another person familiar with the dynamic said Biden would ultimately listen to only one adviser.

“The only person who has ultimate influence over him is the first lady,” this person said. “If she decides there needs to be a change of course, there will be a change of course.”

NBC reported that a source familiar with the situation stressed that the Camp David gathering was not an official family reunion.

“Any discussion about the campaign should be informal or an afterthought,” the source said. “No one sits down for a formal or defining discussion.”
