The Los Angeles Lakers were able to add some young talent to the organization in recent days, selecting Dalton Knecht and Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Lakers also added two undrafted free agents to two-way contracts, signing Armel Traore and Blake Hinson shortly after the draft. Teams are now allowed to have three players on two-way contracts, meaning the Lakers still have one available.

They might save that for Colin Castleton, however, as Spotrac’s Keith Smith reports that last year’s two-way center was offered a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent:

Castleton originally signed with the Lakers on a two-way deal as an undrafted draft pick a year ago. He spent the majority of his rookie year in the G League.

With Castleton being a restricted free agent, the Lakers have the ability to match any offer sheet he signs, whether it’s a two-way or standard NBA contract. LA may not have the roster spots to match an NBA offer, but they would potentially want him back on another two-way deal.

For his part, Castleton recently expressed his desire to return to the Lakers and hopes to play for them in Summer League, starting next week.

Is Lakers’ Colin Castleton working on a 3-point shot?

When Colin Castleton spoke with Lakers Nation about what he worked on this offseason, he specifically mentioned that he was looking to improve his outside shooting after not being a threat from beyond the arc until ‘now in his career.

“Yeah, every day. It’s the focal point this summer, it’s the No. 1 thing,” Castleton said. “I feel like I’ve had more shots than I’ve had in my entire life, to be honest. Just every day I work on my shot in the gym with several coaches and some of the front office guys helping me as well.

“So just being able to focus on that going into Summer League because that’s something we want to do and I want to be able to do it in Summer League to be able to showcase that ability that I’ve been working on all summer long. So that’s the No. 1 focus this summer, that and my defense, just little trends. But for the most part, that’s the biggest focus that I’ve been focused on all summer long.
