262 people arrested for drunk driving in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police apprehended 262 travelers for drunken driving in a large-scale operation.

Drunk driving tests were conducted at various locations within Cyberabad police station limits on Saturday evening.

Among those arrested were 191 two-wheeler drivers, 11 three-wheeler drivers, 56 four-wheeler drivers and 4 heavy vehicle drivers.

During a drunk driving check in Hyderabad, twelve offenders were arrested with blood alcohol levels (BAC) between 300 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

All those arrested will be produced before the court.

If anyone indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes accidents resulting in deaths, that person will be arrested and sent to jail under section 304 part 2 of the Indian Penal Code (with effect from July 1, 2024, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 105) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), for which the maximum punishment is 10 years in prison and a fine, police said.

In a similar operation on the night of June 22, Cyberabad traffic police had apprehended over 385 people for drunken driving.

Among those arrested were 292 cyclists, 80 four-wheeler drivers, 11 three-wheeler drivers and two heavy vehicle drivers.
