Report: Rangers Captain Jacob Trouba Shocked by Recent Trade Rumors – NHL Trade Rumors

New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba was reportedly quite shocked to hear his name brought up in offseason trade rumors. Which comes as a bit of a surprise to some, considering Trouba’s contract went from a full no-movement clause to a modified no-trade clause that includes a 15-team roster.

Trouba has been linked to several trade destinations, including the Detroit Red Wings, who appear very interested in bringing him back to Michigan State. The 30-year-old defenseman has two seasons remaining on his $8 million per year contract against the salary cap. Last season, he recorded 22 points in 69 games and another seven points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Trouba is recognized as one of the toughest defenders in the league and can certainly shoot at the edge of the line on occasion.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said this in a recent article about Trouba’s situation:

Trouba and the Rangers could be a battle as he goes from non-tradable to partial non-tradable status. We saw what happened with Barclay Goodrow, and Trouba’s agent, Kurt Overhardt, is no slouch. One of the challenges is that Trouba was shocked by the possibility that he could be traded, and he hasn’t figured it out yet.

The Rangers have one of the deepest blue lines in the entire league and appear interested in parting ways with Trouba to help balance their offense. While the Red Wings are certainly the favorites, keep an eye on the Seattle Kraken and Dallas Stars in the trade market.
