“So we went to the fabric store and picked out everything we needed for the fairies. I wanted her to create things instead of having things made for her. That way, she was always in charge.”

Katie is probably getting down to business before a bittersweet change in her personal life comes all too soon. In August, Suri will leave the nest for college, having been accepted into the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, the private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Suri’s creatives are expected to study at the School of Design which offers a variety of subjects and is suitable for students with interests ranging from graphic designers, illustrators, animators, fashion designers and artists, all grouped under one department.

Like her mother, Suri is also interested in performing and is an incredibly talented singer and actress.

Katie told InStyle about raising her daughter in New York: “The city has a lot to offer and I take advantage of it. Yes, it can be a little too exposed and we work hard to get around and find our bearings. But what I love about New York is that for me and my daughter, it’s our vibe. When there are 25 things to do every night, it pushes you out of your comfort zone. And you know what else I discovered? There’s a place not far from my house that offers foot massages until midnight. That’s what New York has to offer!”
