PA House approves tougher penalties for people caught street racing

July 1, 2024 – Rep. KC Tomlinson (R-Bucks) announced last week that his bill to increase penalties for those convicted of street racing passed the House by a vote of 177 to 25.

House Bill 2266 would increase the current fine for street racing from $250 to $2,000 per violation. In the event of a second offense, the driver’s vehicle would be impounded to prevent them from using it in future street races. Street race organizers would also be held responsible. This would update the current penalties outlined in Title 75.

“I am pleased to see Bill 2266 pass the House,” said Tomlinson. “The safety of my constituents is always my top priority. When I learned that in my riding alone we have had over 40 incidents in the last year and a half, I knew this was an issue we needed to address. Adults, children and law enforcement officers have been injured or even killed during these events. By increasing penalties for those convicted of street racing, we will keep our streets and law enforcement safe.”

Bill 2266 now goes to the Senate for approval.
