Simon Nielsen Wins Dramatic Pro Tour Stage With First Modern MTG Deck

The final Magic: The Gathering MH3 The Pro Tour Amsterdam was filled with suspense, format-defining cards and prize-rich players competing in the top eight.

On the way to the final MTG Pro Tour of the Year, Modern Horizons 3 Cards like Nadu and Winged Wisdom defined the Modern Constructed meta through Bant Nadu. Of the 243 competitors at Pro Tour Amsterdam, 62 brought either Bant Nadu or Four-Color Nadu as their Modern Constructed deck. Five Nadu MTG The decks reached the top 8 in MH3 Pro Tour, driven by players Eli Kassis, Sam Pardee, Jason Ye, Simon Nielsen and Daniel Goetschel. Nielsen and Pardee earned a place in the final match against Bant Nadu, with Nielsen winning the Pro Tour title.

Despite the domination of MTG decks like Bant Nadu, Noah Ma, and Seth Manfield managed to push Mono-Black Necro into the top eight. Mom was the first player in the MH3 The Pro Tour secured a place in the top 8, with a record of 12 wins for 1 loss during the Swiss events. Former world champion Javier Dominguez also joined the top 8 with Jeskai Control.

Dominguez almost didn’t make the playoffs when his opponent, Bart Van Etten cheated in a decisive second match in the 13th round. The round victory was reversed, however, as Dominguez won the 14th round and secured another top-eight finish.

THE MH3 The Amsterdam Pro Tour was also marked by a moving ceremony MTG Hall of Fame player Kai Budde, whose name is permanently etched Magic history thanks to the Player of the Year award. Nielsen, a past winner of the prestigious award, is seeking his second award this year. Only three Pro Tours are held in a season, with Nielsen winning Amsterdam and finishing second in Chicago.
