Rahul Dravid signs off with an inspiring message to Virat Kohli: 3 whites are done, 1 red to go

New Delhi,UPDATED: June 30, 2024 11:03 PM IST

India head coach Rahul Dravid has encouraged star batter Virat Kohli to aim for the only remaining trophy in his cabinet, the World Test Championship after India triumphed in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday (June 29) at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Notably, India beat South Africa by seven runs in the summit clash to end their 11-year ICC Trophy drought by winning their second T20 World Cup Trophy.

This was the third ICC Trophy for Kohli who had earlier won the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. The 35-year-old had to fulfil his dream of winning a T20 World Cup trophy for 12 years despite all he had given for the team in the five editions he had played. The long wait finally came to an end for the batting stalwart as his match-winning knock of 76 (59) laid the foundation for India’s victory in the all-important encounter.

After India’s historic victory, the ICC (International Cricket Council) shared a special video on its Instagram account giving a glimpse of the Men in Blue’s celebrations in the dressing room. In the video, captain Rohit Sharma can be seen entering the dressing room with BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Jay Shah.

From that moment on, all the players take turns taking photos with the coveted trophy. Star batsman Kohli poses with the trophy with a wide smile on his face as he kisses it for a memorable photo. After taking photos with the trophy, Kohli can be seen giving a high-five to Dravid, who has a special message for the Indian star.

The India head coach encouraged the star batter to aim for the only trophy missing from his cabinet, namely the World Test Championship.

“All three whites are checked, one red left, check it,” Dravid can be heard telling Kohli in the viral video.

Kohli came very close to winning the WTC twice in 2021 and 2023 but unfortunately, India lost in the final of both cycles to New Zealand and Australia respectively. After announcing his retirement from T20IsKohli will now focus on ODIs and Tests in the twilight of his career and will be eager to win the only trophy remaining in his cabinet.
