Emergence of large bat captured by Phoenix weather radar

A large emergence of bats from the Phoenix Bat Cave appeared on National Weather Service radar around 9 p.m. Saturday.

According to a Facebook post from the National Weather Service Phoenix, a large number of bats emerged from a bat cave near State Route 51 in the Biltmore area Saturday night. The bat movement showed up on weather radar as a burst of green.

Weather service officials say it’s not unusual to detect bat movements on radar, and this mass emergence is likely part of the animals’ daily cycle.
