China’s first commercial space launch site, located in Hainan province, is ready for rocket launches, the construction site’s headquarters announced on Sunday.

After thorough assessments, the facility has met all necessary criteria to begin launch activities, the statement said, according to China’s Xinhua news agency.

Construction of the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site began in July 2022, marking China’s first facility dedicated to commercial space missions.

Important infrastructure milestones have been achieved, including the establishment of gas refueling and supply systems, substations and launch pads.

On Sunday, the site conducted a rocket launch simulation exercise as part of its operational preparations.

Yang Tianliang, chairman of Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Co., Ltd., confirmed plans for the site’s maiden rocket launch in the second half of this year, heralding the start of its commercial operations.

Future plans include expanding the launch site to accommodate additional launch pads, aimed at providing domestic and international rocket and satellite launch services. The expansion is expected to accelerate China’s progress in commercial space technology.
