Former US women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe was asked about her stance on trans inclusion in girls’ and women’s sports on Sunday as she took part in a pride parade with her partner Sue Bird.

Katie Daviscourt of the Post Millennial asked Rapinoe about her stance as Rapinoe rode in the back of a convertible. Rapinoe and Bird were marching in a Pride parade in Seattle.

“Your American women’s soccer team lost to high school boys. Do you really think it’s right for these same boys to participate in girls’ sports?” » asked Daviscourt.

Rapinoe seemed to grimace and said, “Oh my God.” But she didn’t answer. Instead, a security guard stepped between Rapinoe and Daviscourt as the soccer star refused to answer the question.

“Why should trans people compete with young girls? Don’t you think they’re going to get hurt? Are they going to get hurt? I’m a journalist, I just want to know,” Daviscourt added.

Rapinoe took a sip from her cup and the parade continued. Security officers then asked Daviscourt to step away from the vehicle.

The two-time World Cup champion said last July that she would support a transgender athlete on the U.S. women’s national team, even if it meant replacing a biological woman.

“Absolutely,” she told Time magazine. “‘You’re taking the place of a ‘real’ woman’, that’s the part of the argument that is still extremely transphobic. I consider trans women to be real women. What you automatically say in the argument, you kind of say it yourself – it’s that you don’t believe these people are women. Therefore, they take the other place.
