Breaking: Get ready for Spain — Germany’s EURO 2024 quarter-final opponents confirmed

Georgia left Spain stunned early in their round of 16 match after scoring a Spanish own goal. But the European giants piled on the pressure and avoided the upset – ultimately running away, 4-1 – meaning a date with hosts Germany in the EURO 2024 quarter-finals.

It will be a rematch of the best match of the group stage of the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2022. Both teams have changed a lot since then: coaches, tactics and players.

For Spain, the emergence of dynamic wingers Nico Williams (Atlético Madrid) and Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) is spearheading an exciting attack that has begun to evolve beyond the tiki-taka era. Williams’ decisive counterattack goal to seal the Georgia result was a glimpse of the new danger this Spanish team poses.

But if Germany has reason to be afraid, so do its adversaries. Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz also represent an electric duo for the hosts. Julian Nagelsmann has a slightly more experienced team, led by international pillars Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern).

The energy is back for the hosts, who have regained their country’s confidence and now have a golden opportunity to return to the semi-finals of a major tournament. But Spain will be their biggest test yet.
