Flyers not sending qualifying offer to Carter Hart – Philly Sports

Today, Daily Faceoff NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Philadelphia Flyers will not be issuing a qualifying offer to Carter Hart after today’s 5 p.m. trade deadline.

If the Flyers offered around $4.5 million, they would retain Hart’s rights. Since they are not making an offer, it is likely that the goaltender will no longer be a Philadelphia Flyers player.

Chris Johnston reported that the NHL rights have not changed for all Canadian World Junior players who were suspended. While the NHL and NHLPA have discussed changing the status of processed players while the legal process plays out, it appears the Flyers wanted no part in pursuing that option.

What happened to Carter Hart?

Less than a year ago, Hart was the face of the orange and black due to his dominance in goal. The Flyers thought they had found their franchise goalie. Unfortunately, to everyone’s surprise, the tragic news about Hockey Canada was revealed and it was confirmed that Hart was one of the names accused of sexual assault. While no trial date has been set and Hart’s lawyers issued a statement of his innocence in January, “we are acting on behalf of Carter Hart and confirm that he has been charged with one count of sexual assault. He is innocent and will fully answer this false allegation in the proper forum, a court of law.”

The Flyers are ready to go again

Philly appears to want to bring in Sam Ersson to start again this season. Ersson took over after Hart’s sudden departure at the end of January.

While there is no specific news on what happens next with Canada’s world junior team, the Flyers are still on schedule. It could be years before a tryout can begin.
