Hanahan 12U stars ready for state | Sports

The Hanahan Diamond Youth O-Zone All-Stars cruised through the District 7 tournament with a sparkling 5-0 record. They plan to continue their summer on the field during the 12U state tournament.

Hanahan opens the 12-team state event on Saturday, July 6 at Sumter’s Patriot Park against Hilton Head. First pitch will be at 11:30 a.m. against the District 8 winner. Win or lose, Hanahan will see either District 9 winner St. George or host Sumter on Sunday, July 7.

The other teams in the state are Union, Midland, Orangeburg, Greer, Hartsville Northern, Clinton, Delmae and North Myrtle Beach. The tournament concludes Thursday, July 11, and the winner will represent South Carolina at the DYB “O” Zone World Series, which begins Aug. 2 in Bossier City, La.

In the District 7 tournament held June 14-19 at St. Andrew’s Parks and Playground complex in Charleston, Hanahan outscored his opponents 89-4, capping the dominant run with a 13-2 victory over Mount Pleasant on Charles Brinker Field.

Hanahan broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the fourth inning and added seven more in his last two at-bats to take the lead.

“These guys have been playing together for a really long time,” Hanahan coach Jason Cribb said. “They worked really, really hard. It’s a good group of kids. They listen well. They are very coachable. It’s a fun group. It doesn’t matter what happens. They will continue to play and work. »

Cribb said he likes his team’s chances of performing well at the state level if the pitching, defense and timely hits pick up where they left off in the district tournament.

Outfielders Jaxon Burch and Jackson Cribb powered Hanahan to the plate, combining to go 23-for-27, and shortstop Luke Roe added nine hits. Hanahan had 77 hits as a team.

In the championship game, Hanahan pitcher Bryce Rennie struck out eight batters and scattered five hits in six innings to earn the victory. Rennie and Roe each drove in three runs.
