Shocking CCTV shows stabbed Deliveroo driver battling knifeman

This is the moment a Deliveroo rider desperately battles against a teenage thief who stabbed him in the stomach as he tried to steal his bike in north London.

Lewis Livingstone attacked the victim, then aged 28, as he walked home along Fore Street, Enfield, in broad daylight.

The 19-year-old thug, who was standing at a bus stop, jumped on the passenger and kicked him, forcing him off his bike.

He then pulled out a large knife and chased the victim before getting on the bike and brandishing the knife at the victim again when he tried to stop him at around 4.30pm on July 1 last year.

The rider, carrying a distinctive Deliveroo thermal backpack, tackled Livingstone to prevent his bike from being stolen.

As they writhed on the ground, Livingstone retrieved his knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen in front of dozens of horrified onlookers.

The man screamed for help and suffered further knife wounds to his hands as he desperately tried to defend himself.

Members of the public bravely intervened to arrest Livingstone and he was arrested while police rushed to the scene and arrested him minutes later.

When asked why he did this, one witness said Livingstone simply replied: “Is he dead?”

In a victim impact statement, the motorcyclist said: “I believe this man was going to kill me if people hadn’t come to my aid.

“I still haven’t recovered from the shock and fear. I spent the night in the hospital having nightmares. I still have a lot of pain in my side and hands from the stabbing. I am now in the queue waiting for hand surgery.

The victim received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital, where fortunately his injuries were assessed as non-life threatening or life-changing.

Metropolitan Police officers worked quickly to charge Livingstone within 24 hours. He was remanded in custody.

Livingstone attempted to claim he was acting in self-defense, but this claim was easily denied by detectives.

Alongside CCTV, they gathered a wealth of witness statements and carried out forensic work that would prove his guilt.

Livingstone, of Wellington Road, Enfield, was sentenced to six and a half years’ imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to attempted robbery and possession of a sharp object.

He was also subject to a suspended sentence for a previous offense for which he will now serve an 18-month sentence, bringing the total to eight years’ imprisonment.

Detective Constable James Hunt said: “The victim continues to suffer the physical and psychological consequences of this incident. He was going about his business, having bought food, when he was plunged into a terrible ordeal.

“I know he is incredibly grateful to the people who came to his aid. Without their courage, this incident could have been much worse.

“This is a great example of how the community has come forward and worked with police following a serious crime. These valuable witnesses, combined with other investigative work, were essential in helping us to quickly charge and remand Livingstone in custody.”
