“It has been an honour” – Marcos Alonso sends touching farewell message to Barcelona

Marcos Alonso has sent a farewell message to Barcelona fans after the Catalans confirmed his departure as his contract with the club comes to an end.

The left-back leaves after two years and two trophies and says he will continue to support the club from afar.

He wrote on Instagram: “It has been an honor to wear the Blaugrana jersey. I take away a lot from these two seasons but I would like to highlight the affection of all the culés and the atmosphere in a spectacular locker room, in addition to a League and a Spanish Super Cup. Thank you to all the club workers who make FC Barcelona much more than a club. I wish you all the best for what’s to come. I will be cheering you on from home as usual. Long live Barça”

Alonso admitted he was fulfilling a childhood dream when he signed for Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022.

The defender’s father was known to have played for the club and used to take his son to watch matches at the Camp Nou.

Alonso will now look for a new opportunity, but it is not yet known where he will play football in the 2024-25 season.
