Florence Pugh’s ‘Midsommar’-Inspired Flower Crown Totally Brings Back Memories of the 2019 Horror Film

The actress’s massive floral outfit sparked a wave of memes

Florence Pugh gives a nod to one of her most memorable film roles.

While attending a Q&A at the Glastonbury Festival in England, the 28-year-old actress wore a floral headdress that bears an undeniable resemblance to her role in the acclaimed A24 horror film. Midsummer.

During the panel on Friday, June 28, Pugh took the stage in a black halter dress with sheer panels and high side slits. She added a pair of gray work boots and chunky jewelry, with her most eye-catching accessory being a flower crown made up of large blue, purple, pink and white flowers.

The coif held back the front strands of the Oscar nominee’s short blonde hair. Pugh also sported a fun makeup look with graphic winged eyeliner and colorful gemstones on the inner and outer corners of her eyes.

The accessory is reminiscent of Pugh’s performance in the 2019 film Midsummer, in which she plays a young woman who goes to a summer festival in Sweden with her boyfriend after the tragic death of her family.

Pugh’s character, Dani, is given a flower crown to wear while she participates in the town’s nine-day festival. The film ends with Dani being crowned “May Queen” and wearing a massive dress and headdress made entirely of brightly colored flowers.

Written and directed by Ari Aster, Mid-summer The film shocked audiences with its disturbing and macabre content. Pugh later said she suffered mentally to achieve her performance, which was critically acclaimed.

“I had never played someone in this much pain before, and I was putting myself in really shitty situations that maybe other actors don’t need to do,” Pugh said during a March 2023 appearance on the podcast. Off the Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster“Every day the content got stranger and harder to achieve, I was putting things in my head that were getting darker and darker.”

“I think in the end I probably, most definitely, overdid it to get that performance,” she continued, noting that she’d “never had that before with any” other character she’s played.

The actress also said it was a difficult turning point for her next project, Greta Gerwig. Little womana few days after packaging Midsummer.

“I remember looking down and feeling this overwhelming guilt, like I felt so guilty, because I felt like I had left her in that field, in that state, and it was so weird, I had never had that before,” Pugh shared.

“It’s funny, I had obviously created such a sad person and I felt guilty for creating that person and then leaving them,” she added.
