“Rahul Dravid’s coaching is very quiet and correct”

After India’s spectacular victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final, former Indian head coach Lalchand Rajput spoke about the quiet but crucial role played by current coach Rahul Dravid. The title win, which ended India’s 11-year drought with the ICC Trophy, highlighted Dravid’s coaching style.

Dravid took charge of the Indian cricket team in 2021, succeeding Ravi Shastri. His journey as a head coach was marked by failures, including semi-final and final appearances in major tournaments.

However, Saturday’s victory in Barbados against South Africa finally cemented his legacy as the coach of the senior men’s team. Rajput was full of praise for the way Dravid coaches.

“We all know that Rahul Dravid’s coach is very quiet and correct. We call him the Wall of Cricket… When someone wins the World Cup, everyone jumps with joy. He danced yesterday and showed that he has another side too,” Rajput was quoted as saying by TOI.

India wins second T20 World Cup title

The victory was a team effort, with outstanding performances from Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya in the final overs, complemented by the batting brilliance of Virat Kohli and Axar Patel.

The final match itself was a rollercoaster of emotions. After a shaky start to the match, the Men in Blue posted a competitive score of 176/7, thanks to Kohli’s 76 and crucial contributions from Patel and Shivam Dube. In response, South Africa’s chase was derailed by the Indian bowlers, who kept their composure in the crucial final overs.
