U.S. Soccer Team Suffers Another Shocking Defeat in IFAF U20 World Championship Bronze Medal Game

The United States soccer team suffered another upset in the bronze medal game of the U20 World Championship on Sunday, losing to Austria, 32-25.

The United States scored first on a touchdown pass from Anthony Luna to Layton Duncan, and Matt Jung made the two-point conversion. However, it was an uphill battle for the United States from there.

Austria became the first European team to win a world junior medal.

“It’s great. I’m so proud of the guys and it’s a good ending for me to finish with a win,” Austria head coach Roman Floredo said, via the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) website. “We didn’t play our best game and the fight was a little bit gone in the first half because we were here to compete for the gold medal, but we did enough to win.”

Team USA lost to Japan earlier in the week, which sent Japan into the gold medal game against Canada.

Football fans were just as stunned by the defeat to Austria as they were to Japan.

Meanwhile, Canada won its third consecutive U20 World Championship.
