Soma Golden Behr, 84, Who Inspired Enterprising Journalism at The New York Times, Dies

Soma Golden Behr, the longtime New York Times editor who was a centrifuge of story ideas — they poured out of her in all directions — and whose journalistic passions included poverty, race and class, resulting in stories that won Pulitzer Prizes, died Sunday in Manhattan. She was 84.

Her death, in the Palliative Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital, came after breast cancer had spread to other organs, said her husband, William A. Behr.
