Normani’s absence from the 2024 BET Awards was due to a recent injury

Normani was one of the few artists scheduled for the 2024 BET Awards who, unfortunately, did not appear on stage during culture’s biggest night.

On Sunday (June 30), the DOPAMINE The singer revealed she had to cancel her performance due to a “very serious accident”, which resulted in an unexpected injury.

In the statement shared on her Instagram Stories, Normani wrote: “I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believes me. I wanted to continue here and give you an update letting you know that while rehearsing for BET I had a very bad accident and injured myself.

The “Candy Paint” singer explained that she used to “get through anything,” but this time, doctors advised her to let it go.

Normani added: “I desperately wanted to give you my best on stage, but performing would delay my recovery. I followed my process and did my best to make sense of my feelings about it. I’m devastated and I hate feeling like I’m a disappointment to you, but I need to focus on my recovery right now.

The former Fifth Harmony member said, “Believe me, I hear you and I see you. There’s nothing I wanted to do more than perform for you and also, get back to what fulfills me the most: BEING ON STAGE,” but he thanked BET for giving him the opportunity.

According to reports, Normani was scheduled to participate in the female tribute to Usher in honor of his Lifetime Achievement Award.

She reportedly joined Tinashe, Chlöe, Marsha Ambrosius, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Victoria Monét and Teyana Taylor in celebrating Ursher’s legacy.

Fans are still divided on what they think of the tribute. Most agree that it failed to properly commemorate the crooner’s career while others defend the network’s artist choices.
