Jackson Arnold: ‘Oklahoma’s receiver room is definitely underrated’

Jackson Arnold should drive Oklahoma in the SEC this season as the Sooners’ QB1, but questions about who his best weapons on the outside will be remain unanswered.

Whoever it is, fans and media shouldn’t overlook the Sooners’ wide receiving corps in 2024, according to the second-year shooting guard.

“Sure, I mean, for me, there’s plenty of room,” Arnold told reporters at the Manning Passing Academy, addressing his underrated receiver room. “We’ve got, I mean, two or three guys at every position where they can go and compete at a high level. Compete at Oklahoma, go score and I’d feel confident throwing them a kickoff for a touchdown.”

It didn’t take long for Arnold to show off that deep ball to OU fans during April’s spring game. Arnold connected with the junior wide receiver Deion Burks — which has just been transferred to the program of Purdue — for a 64-yard touchdown on the first possession from scrimmage. The duo would combine for another big scoring play, this time for 50 yards in the second quarter.

Arnold ultimately finished the game with 10 completions for 20 attempts, 233 yards and Burks’ two touchdowns. Burks finished the day with five receptions for 174 yards, to go along with his two touchdowns, as the Sooners’ offense scored 65 points in the game.

Elsewhere in the programming, Trey Brown And JJ Hester were the only two receivers to record more than 30 receiving yards during the contest. The receivers collectively finished with 18 receptions for 326 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

“We have good guys lined up all over the place, even guys who got injured and will be back for next season, who we don’t talk about right now, but who are real guys,” Arnold continued.

“As Andre Antoine Last year he got injured against. Texas but I mean he was like the best receiver in college before he got hurt and people just want to forget about that. (They’re a) great group and I’m super excited for them this year.”

Anthony appeared in six games for the Sooners in 2023, recording 27 receptions for 429 yards and one touchdown. Two of those games saw the Michigan The transfer eclipses the 100-yard receiving mark.

As these players look to make an impact on their team this season, Oklahoma’s season opener against Temple will set the tone for the rest of the season for each of Arnold’s receivers. It’s up to them to make the most of their opportunities.
