36 Tagged Catfish Caught at GRCF Annual Fishing Tournament

A total of 36 tagged fish were caught over the weekend at the annual Green River Catfish Festival (GRCF) fishing tournament. The angler’s dinner was held shortly after 6 p.m. on the banks of the Green River at the J. Guy Cook boat launch in Morgantown. Hundreds of anglers took part in the three-day event. Last week, 139 tagged fish were released into the river. The “grand prize” is a $10,000 catfish sponsored by the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce. Other tagged catfish range in value from $200 to $2,500. Renegade Marine matched all of the original $100 fish, making the prizes at least $200. In total, approximately $47,000 worth of tagged catfish were released. Winners (value of each individually tagged catfish) will be announced at the GRCF opening ceremonies on July 4.

Multiple gift cards and cash prizes were awarded for many categories including river entry, all ticket holders, largest and smallest catfish, veterans, youth, goose egg of the day, and more.

The event’s biggest winner was Rebecca Hurd (pictured above), who won $1,000 in a ticket-holder drawing.
