Josh Gad Announces Cancellation of Central Park on Apple TV+

Josh Gad has announced the cancellation of animated comedy series Central Park on the Apple TV+ streaming service.

The series, which ran for three seasons as of 2020, was a musical sitcom starring Gad, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Titus Burgess, Kathryn Hahn and many more.

Gad announced the cancellation on Instagram’s Threads messaging app after responding to a fan’s question.

“Have you heard about Central Park coming back?” wrote one Threads user, to which Gad replied, “Unfortunately, it’s done.”

The comedy follows Gad as a busker and show narrator named Birdie, as he tells the story of the Tillerman-Hunter family – Paige, Molly, Cole and Owen – who live at Edendale Castle in the middle of Manhattan’s Central Park.

Stanley Tucci voices Bitsy Brandenham, an entrepreneur who wants to replace Central Park with condos and businesses for personal reasons, which upends the lives of the Tillerman-Hunter family.

Kristen Bell originally voiced Molly Tillerman, before leaving the series after the first season and being replaced by Raver-Lampman due to the character’s mixed-race nature.

She returns in the third season as Abby Hunter, Paige’s sister.

The show’s cast members have already spoken to Digital Spy on the difficulties of recording a musical as an animated show.

“Not being with the person you’re on stage with and having to bring a sense of authenticity… anticipating how they would react, not having heard them say the line yet, it’s a pretty tricky thing to understand,” Burgess explained.

Other adult animated comedies that cater to viewers include Big Mouth, which recently had its seventh season and was renewed for an eighth season, and Bob’s Burgers.

Seasons 1-3 of Central Park are available to stream on Apple TV+.
