Singer sends violent message to Simon Cowell after being invited to audition for music mogul’s ‘next One Direction’

A singer sent a violent message to Simon Cowell on Tuesday after he was approached by a casting director to audition for the “next One Direction”.

The 64-year-old music mogul recently embarked on a quest to find the next incarnation of the boy band after admitting there hasn’t been a group as successful since.

Looking for his new stars, Simon was seen on the streets of London with a placard that read: “Simon needs you. Future megastars wanted for new boy band.”

Meanwhile, his team of casting directors contacted potential candidates online, but one of them was unimpressed.

Fin Power, of Liverpool band STONE, claimed to have received a message from someone in Simon’s name and shared his brutal response.

He explained: “I got this message from someone on behalf of Simon Cowell. ‘Hello, Fin. I’m contacting you on behalf of Simon Cowell!’

“We’re working with him to scout singers aged 16 to 18 for a new boy band, which is being filmed as part of a potential TV documentary following him in his search.

“The company following Simon Cowell is BTBSC Series Ltd trading as Box-to-Box Films. I would like to provide you with further information on how you would like to audition for this film, if you are interested.”

In response, Fin wrote: “Tell Simon to go fuck himself.”

MailOnline has contacted Simon’s representatives for comment.

Simon recently signed a huge deal with streaming giant Netflix for a new series as part of his bid to find the “next One Direction” – which he has named Simon Cowell: Midas Touch.

A source revealed to The Sun that Simon was close to finalising the deal with the streamer.

They said: “Netflix is the perfect place for his new show and Box To Box, who produce the series, have worked with them before.

“Simon and his team have worked extremely hard to get the show off the ground and a final deal is now very close.”

The name of the show amused people behind the scenes, it was said.

The source added: “Simon knows he’s the best at what he does and calling his show Midas Touch gives new meaning to bragging.”

Simon’s search will consist of X Factor boot camp-style auditions starting on July 4 and 5 in Newcastle, before travelling to Liverpool, Dublin and London.

It was revealed on Saturday that Simon fears the UK is not finding enough emerging talent, saying record labels are not signing enough new stars, who face too much competition online.

Simon, who found global success with One Direction and Westlife, is determined to change that with a new project in which he holds auditions for a new band.

He told the Daily Mail: “Record companies aren’t signing enough new talent at the moment.

“The number of British artists making it worldwide has literally plummeted because I think there is too much competition online.

“People don’t knock on your door and say, ‘I’ve got a new band.’ That doesn’t happen. You have to go out there and do it yourself. That’s what we do.”

Simon was spotted putting up a giant billboard of his own face to advertise his new show earlier this month.

He surprised passers-by in London by erecting a gigantic poster to launch his nationwide hunt for the next big boy band.

Simon decided his star presence was needed to promote his next project after Britain’s Got Talent received the worst ratings in its 17-year history on Sunday night – despite the head judge saying it was the best final he’d seen in a long time.

Dressed in overalls, the chief justice I set to work with a bucket and a brush in my hand.

He left Londoners in shock as he began to smooth out a giant poster of his own face alongside the words: “Simon needs you. Future megastars wanted for new boy band. No time wasted.”

The last British pop group to achieve global success was Dua Lipa, who were signed to Warner Records in 2014.

In contrast, in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, there was no shortage of world-famous music groups such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Wham! and Take That.

Music industry insiders said this helped explain Glastonbury organisers’ difficulties in finding big enough headliners for this year’s festival.

Ms Lipa, 28, will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, with Coldplay headlining on Saturday – for the fifth time.

American artist SZA will headline Sunday night.
