Meet the Athlete Monday with Nick Logan

Meet the Athlete Monday with Nick Logan

Nick Logan (Phoenix, Arizona) is following in his mother’s footsteps as he begins his final year of studies in mechanical engineering. Logan qualified for this year’s NAIA National Championships in cross country after the team won its 10thth straight to the Cal Pac Championship and the 3000m Steeplechase on the track. Logan is an NAIA scholarship athlete and was named to the Varsity Athletic Communicators Academic All-District Team. He is spending his summer as an Outsourced Engineering Intern at Superior Industries.

What are you studying? Why did you want to study mechanical engineering? Why did you come to ERAU to study it?
I study mechanical engineering. I decided to go into engineering because I loved math and physics classes in high school and my mother is an engineer. I chose Embry-Riddle because of the opportunity to run cross country and track at the collegiate level, and because Riddle has an excellent mechanical engineering program focused on aerospace applications.

How did you find your internship?
I found my current internship through the ERAU job fair, in addition to having been a former intern two years ago.

What does your internship consist of?
Superior is a manufacturer of industrial conveyors and bulk material handling equipment. I work with outside manufacturing shops to help produce our equipment. This involves reviewing and organizing the designs that will be sent to these stores.

What is your favorite part of your internship?
I enjoy seeing the overall operations of a large equipment manufacturer and managing many different schedules. I was also able to optimize many outsourcing processes using macros and Excel codes. I also love staying in the Prescott area this summer because many of the XC team also stay here and the trails for running are unbeatable.

What do you hope to get out of your internship?
I hope to gain experience in a more managerial position so that I can create opportunities for promotions in my future career.
