Belton traffic stop leads to high-speed chase, crash in Copperas Cove

Texas Department of Public Safety officers arrested a woman near Copperas Cove after she fled the scene of a traffic stop in Belton.

In a statement from DPS, it said a 37-year-old woman was driving with an expired registration when the stop was initiated. Once the officer exited his vehicle, the woman took off on westbound Interstate 14, at times traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The officer pursued him, using emergency lights and sirens, when the driver took the bypass around Copperas Cove on Highway 190.
