1. Roy Cropper, sick, shocked by surprise hospital visit

Roy speaks to Nina from her hospital bed in Coronation Street — Roy insists he had another visitor. ITV

As Roy leaves the café to deliver some homemade soup to Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), he finds himself confronted by a gang of thugs who insult him. Roy trips and Carla rushes to his aid as she confronts her tormentors.

Roy is in pain, but back at the cafe he is furious when Shona admits she was never ill – it was all a ruse to convince Roy to return to work!

Roy sends Shona and Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) packing, and Shona is telling Roy’s niece, Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), what happened when an ambulance suddenly arrives. The couple rush into the café to see Roy being massaged by the paramedics.

At the hospital, a visitor appears at Roy’s bedside, and as he drifts in and out of consciousness, the mysterious person remains by Roy’s side.

Then they disappear, and when Roy tells Nina about his surprise arrival, she wonders if he’s hallucinating. But who does he think he saw? And will he be okay?

2. Maria Connor exposes Gary Windass’ lies

Maria is stunned to receive a letter informing her that bully Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) is to be released from prison for threatening to stab her son Liam (Charlie Wrenshall).

Maria goes to the police station to ask some questions, unaware that Gary is there with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), providing her with his bank statements.

As Gary leaves the interrogation room, Maria asks him what’s going on. Will Gary confess that he gave Sarah £10,000 to get evil Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) out of Weatherfield?

3. Toyah Battersby joins Leanne Battersby at the Institute

Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) tells Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that she will spend the day looking after Toyah after recent events.

But when Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) calls to ask her to attend the taster session for new recruits, Toyah offers to join her.

They arrive at the Chariot Square Hotel for the screening, and Leanne is delighted to see Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) among the guests. Has Amy been convinced, and why has a skeptical Toyah decided to attend?

4. Craig Tinker is wary of Kit Green

Craig confides in his mother Beth Sutherland (Lisa George) that he fears he has become an enemy of Detective Kit, and tells her about the shoplifting incident with Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

Knowing Gemma is his half-sister, Kit persuaded the store manager to drop charges against the troubled mother. We also know Kit fabricated evidence on sexual predator Nathan to frame him for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder, so his morals aren’t quite there – although he seems more vigilant than sinister at this point! But is Craig right to fear Kit?

5. Carla Connor disappoints Betsy Swain

At the factory, Betsy, a young intern, suggests to the boss Carla that she be hired full-time. We certainly admire her audacity! But Carla pays her little attention, which leaves Betsy stung.

When viewers met Betsy, the daughter of Detective Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), they realized she was in desperate need of money. Betsy blackmails Lauren’s real killer, Joel Deering (Calum Lill), but will she regret going after him? And why does she need the money?
