Many Gen Z Teens Feel Unmotivated or Inspired by Time in School, New Survey Finds – Chip Chick

When you were little, did you like going to school? There are many people from older generations who relied on school not only for education, but also for everyday excitement and fun.

Certainly, some children struggle in school due to factors such as bullying or anxiety, but many children depend on school.

Additionally, the school has been a transformative space for many students, giving them a clearer vision of their futures, helping them envision the lives they might lead after high school and eventually college.

However, times have begun to change and many young students find themselves resenting or dreading school.

A recent report A survey by Gallup and the Walton Family Foundation found that many Gen Z teens feel unmotivated and uninspired by their time in school.

In partnership with Harvard Business School, Gallup and the Walton Family Foundation surveyed more than 1,000 Gen Z students ages 12 to 18, asking them about their happiness, school life, routines and more.

Interestingly, less than half of students, or 48% of those enrolled in middle or high school, feel motivated to go to school. Additionally, only 52% of students said they felt like they were doing something interesting at school during the day.

There is a silver lining, as the survey also found that six in 10 Gen Z students said they were happy, and the majority of happy students said they were motivated to go to school and felt like they were doing something meaningful every day.

On the positive side, 64% of Gen Z students who feel happy also feel that the work they do in school is important. But unfortunately, Gen Z students who reported not feeling happy are half as likely to agree with these sentiments.
