Waitrose issues chocolate cake alert with ‘return to store’ message

If you purchased a pack, you can return it to the store for a full refund.

Waitrose is recalling some of its chocolate cakes and asking customers to return any they bought in store over safety fears. Waitrose and Partners is recalling Waitrose Mini Chocolate Cupcakes because they contain nuts that are not listed on the label.

Some packages contain coffee and nut cupcakes, meaning the product may pose a health risk to people with nut allergies. The recalled package has a use-by date of July 20 this year and contains nine products in one box.

Waitrose and Partners is advising customers to contact relevant allergy support organisations who will inform their members of the recall. The company has also posted a point-of-sale notice for customers. The notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have purchased the product.

If you have purchased the product and have a nut allergy, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. For more information, contact Waitrose customer services on 0800 188 884, option 4.

Sometimes a food product has a problem that means it can no longer be sold. It may then be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (customers are asked to return it). Sometimes, foods need to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is another risk of food allergy. When there is a risk of food allergy, the FSA issues an allergy alert.
