It is “unfair” for the government to intervene in the ongoing affairs of the Defence Forces

A former riot police officer has criticised the government over the questioning of defence force members facing legal proceedings.

Former Garda Sergeant Christy Galligan believes the Defence Forces Act needs to be overhauled, rather than the government intervening in cases that have not yet reached court.

The appeal comes as Cathal Crotty’s suspended sentence is set to be appealed to the DPP following his attack on Natasha O’Brien in 2022.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mr Galligan says the government’s current proposals are unfair.
