Good Vibes 2024 Festival Cancelled to Honor Sultan Ibrahim’s Coronation

The Good Vibes Festival 2024 has been officially cancelled to avoid clashing with Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation ceremony, which is set to take place on July 20. The announcement came as a disappointment to many fans, as the festival was set to be one of the most exciting events for Malaysian music lovers this year. The lineup included international artists like Peggy Gou, Joji, Russ, J Balvin, BIBI and many more, who were set to deliver unforgettable performances.

After last year’s controversy surrounding English pop-rock band The 1975, the festival’s return in July was met with considerable scepticism. Despite initial enthusiasm and anticipation, this year’s edition was cancelled, causing a fresh wave of disappointment among fans who had hoped for a smooth return.

Good Vibes Festival 2024 Has Been Cancelled, Here’s What You Need to Know

Originally scheduled to take place over two days at Resort World Awana in Genting Highlands, the festival was scheduled to kick off on July 20. However, in a recent statement posted on Instagram, the festival organisers informed concert-goers that the concert had been cancelled due to the overlap with Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation ceremony. The statement stressed the importance of respecting this important national event.

According to a letter from the authorities dated June 27, large-scale performances with international artists are not allowed on July 20. The directive was issued in honour of the coronation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. The authorities stressed the importance of the coronation and the need to maintain the decorum of the day.

The organizers explained in their statement that rescheduling the festival was not a viable option. Given the nature of Good Vibes Festival, which involves multiple bands touring over multiple days, coordinating a new date would be a logistical challenge. As a result, Future Sound Asia, the festival’s organizing body, has decided to cancel the event altogether.

The statement reads: “Due to the nature of Good Vibes Festival, which involves multiple touring concerts over multiple days, it is not possible to reschedule the festival. As a result, Future Sound Asia announces the cancellation of the festival, originally scheduled for 20-21 July. All purchasers of Good Vibes Festival tickets will automatically receive a full refund to the payment method used for their purchase.”

For many, the cancellation of Good Vibes Festival 2024 is a major disappointment, especially after the turbulent events of the previous year. However, the decision underscores the respect and reverence that Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation ceremony is held to be a pivotal moment in Malaysian history. Fans who purchased tickets will receive a full refund, providing some solace amid the disappointment.

The organizers expressed their regret at the cancellation and acknowledged the support and understanding of fans. They also reiterated their commitment to hosting the festival again in the future, promising an even better experience for music lovers when the time comes.
