Remember just before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom when rumors started circulating that Princess Zelda could be a playable character? That wish never came true (sorry, spoilers), but the Hylian monarch will get her moment of glory next September when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom gives her the lead role.

We are, of course, pump to finally get the chance to play solely as Zelda in a main game, but being a 2D, top-down adventure, there’s still a small portion of us wondering what a game featuring the princess in the art style of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom might look like.

As with most conceptual exercises of this type, it didn’t take long for an artist on Twitter to give us an answer. And yes, that would be awesome.

@TobyFoxArt took on the challenge this time, attempting to recreate the Zora moment from the Echoes of Wisdom trailer with the show’s modern 3D visuals. And he succeeded, changing the perspective and redesigning the character models to fit TOTK’s aesthetic. There’s even a HUD added to really emphasize the immersion! You can check out the finished product in the tweet below.

In a video showing his process, Fox estimated that the project took nearly 24 hours to complete, and we can see why with all the detail crammed in there! We’re especially fond of the little Smash Bros. reference on the left, with the princess’s special moves (Din’s fire, Farore’s wind, and Nayru’s love) replaced with BOTW’s Divine Beast icons.

It’ll probably be a long time before we get a 3D open-world game with Zelda at the helm, but hey, at least we know it would look cool.
