NFL analyst ranks Texans’ improved receiver room among best in league

The outlook for the Houston Texans in 2024 and beyond is as sunny as it gets in the NFL. Not only do they have a solid core consisting of a good general manager, head coach and starting quarterback, but they also have one of the best receiver rooms in the league.

Houston’s receivers have received relatively little acclaim heading into the 2023 campaign, but both Nico Collins and Tank Dell have performed much better than expected, coinciding with a phenomenal rookie season from CJ Stroud.

Since then, the Texans have added one of the game’s top 10 receivers by trading three draft picks to the Buffalo Bills for Stefon Diggs. A four-time Pro Bowler and one-time All Pro, Diggs has been sensational over the last four seasons in Buffalo. At his best, he led the league in receptions and receiving yards in 2020 with 127 receptions and 1,535 yards. Diggs’ production has also rarely dipped much below that. During that run, he ended up averaging over 1,300 receiving yards and nine touchdowns per season.

While it’s not a guarantee given the obvious chemistry between Stroud and Collins, Diggs should land at the top of Houston’s receiver rankings. How good is this group now? Some analysts believe this is the best receiver room in the entire NFL this year, including ESPN’s Mike Clay, who has the Texans at the top of his receiver rankings.

We’d rather wait and see how this trio of Diggs, Collins and Dell performs in at least one game before ranking them first in the league on paper, but that’s just a slightly spicy interpretation.

In recent years, the best teams in this part of the game have been Cincinnati and Seattle. Losing Tyler Boyd to the Titans dropped the Bengals down a notch, so as far as the AFC goes, this is definitely the strongest WR room right now.

The Seahawks and 49ers both have a legitimate claim to the title of the NFL’s best receiving unit, but the Texans might not face a better receiving group than theirs all year, at least not until they (theoretically) reach the Super Bowl.
