Former NFL Player Picks Surprise Team To Stop Chiefs’ Third Title Hopes

Former NFL Player Picks Surprise Team To Stop Chiefs’ Third Title Hopes

The buzz around the Chargers is officially out of control. Expectations are high for Los Angeles under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, even if we’ve gone too far.

Former Raiders defensive end Akbar Gbajabiamila, who played in the NFL from 2003 to 2007, appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and said the Chargers had a legitimate chance to dethrone the Chiefs.

Considering the team is in the midst of a rebuild and just lost Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler, I must respectfully disagree with Gbajabiamila. No, Los Angeles will not stop Kansas City.

“There’s a team that has the ability to punch them in the face and keep them from having a third straight game,” Gbajabiamila said. “I like Harbaugh, man. I really do… I mean, he wins everywhere.”

Harbaugh is indeed a great coach who has found success at every step of the way. However, Andy Reid is also a very good coach and has won three Super Bowls to prove it. The Chiefs have a significantly better team than the Chargers, so why should we think Harbaugh can overcome this disadvantage?

Despite his comments, Gbajabiamila predicted Kansas City would pull off the three-peat. “I’ll go for it three in a row. It’s very likely that these guys did it,” he continued. “They just drafted speed again. We didn’t see a lot of that last season, you know, with what they had now, with that deep threat, obviously, he’s a rookie. We’ll see what that looks like down the road, but Patrick Mahomes just makes me excited.”

Maybe one day soon, Harbaugh and the Chargers will have a real shot at winning the AFC West, although that day may not be today. The Chiefs have won five straight against their division rival, and it will take time for Harbaugh to leave his mark on the organization.

As has been the case for the past eight years, the AFC West continues to go through Kansas City.
