Ruth Langsford ‘sends love’ in touching message after heartbreaking loss

Former This Morning star Ruth Langsford has paid a touching tribute following the devastating loss of Gemma Atkinson’s beloved dog Norman. Gemma, 39, took to her Instagram page on Monday to reveal the heartbreaking news to her followers, alongside a moving montage of memories with her beloved pet.

In the emotional message, Gemma told fans that her “heart is broken” after having to make “the most difficult decision” regarding Norman’s wellbeing. The tribute video features many moments with Norman, his four-legged friend Ollie and Gemma’s five-year-old daughter Mia.

Shortly after Gemma posted her sad news, many of her two million followers were quick to respond with messages of support, including TV personality and dog lover Ruth, who commented: “Oh Gemma, I’m so sorry. I can only imagine your pain. What a wonderful life you gave him… keep your memories close. Sending you my love.”

BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty also offered her condolences, saying: “I’m so sorry for your loss and heartbreak xx.”

Strictly Come Dancing’s It Takes Two host Janette Manrara also offered her condolences, writing: “I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you all the love in the world,” the Express reports.

Gemma’s fiancé and Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Gorka Marquez expressed his heartbreak with a series of heartfelt emojis.

Ruth herself understands the deep bond between a dog and its owner, having adopted Maggie, a rescued collie cross, over a decade ago with her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the couple spoke enthusiastically about the joy she had brought into their lives.

“She’s just lovely,” Ruth exclaimed. “We love her so much. You come home and you’ve had a hard day, a long day, whatever, and I see her and she sees me, or Eamonn, and you see her tail wagging, and then she runs away, and I know it’s because she’s taking a toy out of her basket to bring you.”

“It’s just the most beautiful thing ever. And you forget everything that worried you, that annoyed you, that upset you.”

Eamonn also shared Ruth’s feelings during the conversation, but he made an intriguing remark: “If my wife loved me like my dog loves me, I would be a very happy man.”

The couple, who split in May after 14 years of marriage, have since had to deal with their separation. Following their split, it appears Ruth has taken on the primary responsibility for Maggie.

A source revealed to The Sun that Eamonn’s recent health issues could influence the final decision on who gets to keep the dog permanently.

“Maggie is like a daughter to them. They adore her. But she’s growing up and they know she needs stability,” the source said.

“It’s a question of who can give her that. Eamonn adores her and Maggie has been a great support during her health problems.”

“The thought of giving her up breaks her heart. But if Ruth is able to get out and walk her more, then she might just get Maggie in the mix.”
