Biden, who boasted that Supreme Court ruling ‘didn’t stop’ his student loan program, touts respect for presidential ‘limits’

Addressing the nation Monday, President Joe Biden assured Americans that he would “respect the limits of presidential powers.” Just weeks ago, he boasted that the Supreme Court “did not block” his plan to cancel student loans, which it deemed unconstitutional.

Biden’s remarks follow the high court’s ruling Monday that presidents enjoy immunity from criminal prosecution for “official acts” within their constitutional authority.

“This is a dangerous precedent because the power of the presidency will no longer be limited by law, even by the Supreme Court of the United States,” Biden said. “There are also times when one must have the wisdom to respect the limits of the power of the presidency.”

Biden, however, has consistently boasted about defying the law of the land regarding his Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan, which seeks to shift responsibility for individual student loans to the American public.

“The Supreme Court tried to stop me from canceling my student debt. But they didn’t stop me,” Biden wrote on May 29. On February 22, he reiterated that the Supreme Court could not stop him from canceling student debt.
