Sky Going ‘Silent’ at Stage Left in Surprise

By Shannon O’Brien | Stage Left Productions

Lauren Gunderson’s “Silent Sky” will be on the Stage Left Productions stage, starting Friday, July 19 and running through Saturday, July 27.

Gunderson is one of the most produced modern playwrights in the country due to her ability to create realistic, approachable characters and witty and inspiring dialogue.

In “Silent Sky,” she brings us the fictionalized story of Henrietta Leavitt, a real-life 19th century astronomer.

“Silent Sky” explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them.

Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

Director Cody Dull and his cast — Lauren Isherwood, Brenna Keck, Keith Chandler, Kathryn Katsikis and Cindy Miesse — bring this masterpiece to life.

“Silent Sky” has been called “entertaining and inspirational,” “mesmerizing” and “extraordinary.”

Come escape the heat and relax and enjoy “Silent Sky” with performances at 7 pm on July 19; Saturday, July 20; Thursday, July 25; and Friday, July 26 and at 2 pm on Sunday, July 21 and Saturday, July 27.
