Traffic stop leads CCPD to discover drug cache

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) arrested a 34-year-old woman in late May after finding several controlled substances in her vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to CCPD, on Sunday evening, May 26, a police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the corner of 9th Avenue and Whipple Avenue in Cañon City. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Angelina Madison, 34, who had a suspended driver’s license.


During the traffic stop, CCPD’s police dog Kasio conducted an open-air search, which alerted the driver of the vehicle to the presence of narcotics, CCPD reported. After a more thorough search of the vehicle, officers found 1,641 fentanyl pills, 105.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine and five grams of black heroin.

CCPD says Madison has been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, one count of criminal possession of an identification document and operating a vehicle while suspended.
