NCIS: Hawaii Fan Petition Reaches 42,000 Signatures Following CBS Show’s Cancellation

Popverse’s Top Stories of the Day

Is there such a thing as too much NCIS? Not according to fans of NCIS: Hawai’i, which CBS axed earlier this year. After three seasons of solving crimes in the sun and waves, the spin-off of one of America’s most successful television franchises has come to an end. But fans aren’t letting the show go down without a fight.

It’s a story we’ve heard repeatedly over the past year. A show with a strong, vocal fanbase gets canceled by the network, only to have fans rush to try to save it, usually with thousands of signatures on a fan petition touting the importance of bringing the show back. In the case of NCIS: Hawai’i, their fan petition has garnered over 42,000 signatures as of this writing, just shy of the 50,000 signature goal.

We fear that bringing back NCIS: Hawai’i will be an even more uphill battle than recent efforts like Our Flag Means Death and Station 19. Both of those shows could see the possibility that another network (likely Netflix) will see the demand for another season or two of the show and offer it a lifeline. However, it’s hard to imagine CBS allowing another network to produce its cherished NCIS franchise. It’s also unlikely that they’ll bring the show back after its cancellation now that they’ve made their decision.

That’s not to say we don’t love seeing fans fight for their favorite shows—the passion and love they have for these characters is why we love television. The petition is a testament to that passion and allows fans to share what NCIS: Hawai’i has meant to them over the past three years.
